Away from the crowdy town centre, the Fukuura island features foot paths offering nice views of the bay and nearby islands. Watch the spiders hanging from the trees!

Matsushima (Pine Island) is one of Japan's Sankei (Three beautiful sceneries). Fukuura Island can be accessed by crossing the Fukuraabashi red bridge. It's a small Island where you can walk and relax whilst looking at the beautiful scenery of pine trees and the ocean. There is a a track and a map of various locations on the Island. One of the spots that I visited was the flower field. There are a variety of flowers and you can take 1 with you. The track is clean and there are many vegetation. I didn't have the time to walk around every spot due to large company, but it was a nice experience.

It us a nice, green relaxing island where you walk through a long bridge. 200 yen admission ticket for adults and 100 yen for elementary kids. Not convenient for wheelchair. There are a couple of photo shooting spots and very nice scenery. If you are around better to stop by. There is a little cafe and bathrooms

Matsushima is counted as one of the most picturesque sites in Japan. You can see a nice view from Fukuura island. However you need to come here on a sunny day to see the most out of it. There are around 260 island. During the rain/foggy day, you will have hard time to see those islands. In order to get to this island, you will need to walk accross the red bridge, and there is a small fee that you can buy from a machine just before crossing the bridge.
