Eigenji Temple (Momiji Temple)

It is beautiful in the spring too. The Temple is facing east, and behind it is a hill covered with venerable trees. I was there around 4-6pm, so the trees were just caressed by the evening light, and the entire grounds were bathed in that gentle atmosphere. The grounds are meticulously arranged with trees of all kinds, flowers with many colors, statues ranging from the intimidating to the humourosly silly, trees of all shapes and colors, stones that are worth a closer look. Because the light was so gentle, everything seemed different depending on where I looked it from. Mesmerizing, captivating, serene. I was really impressed by the level of care involved. The trees are trimmed to perfection, or left to themselves, but even that freedom seems under control. Then I wandered past the tunnels of leaves and flowers, up to the graves. But you'll have to see those colors by yourself. This place exudes beauty.

A very nice place to visit in fall. There are some parking spaces near the temple, but during peak season (fall) you might have to park somewhere farther and walk for around 800m. The place is full of colorful trees in fall, and a lot of nice spots to take a picture of!

A small temple with extended cemetery. It is known for a nice view of maple 🍁 leaves at the river side. It will be colourful in November. There are many statues, some are intriguing.

Even in the cold it was worth the walk from station. Incredibly friendly staff!! Such peaceful grounds and great views. Thank you

I visited Eigenji in August, 2016. It was raining, so I didn't see another person the whole time I was there. Visiting the temple was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.
