がみへい in the last week

This is a very sacred place where Izanagi performed purification and it is said that Amaterasu Omikami, Tsukuyomi no Mikoto, and Suho no Mikoto were born. In other words, Japan is the starting point of God. A power spot among very sacred power spots. This is the place where the words ``Tsukushi-no-Hyuga-no-Tachibana-Odo-no-Awa-Kihara'' that appear in the prayer during Shinto rituals, ``I was able to purify myself in the Awa-Kihara of Tachibana-no-Odo in the Hinata of Tsukushi...'', are said to be in this place. There is also a pond where purification is said to have taken place, and there is also Misogi Goten where it is enshrined. It was early in the morning and it was very quiet, but I was able to take my time and enjoy my visit.

Charming and historically significant shrine to the north of Miyazaki city centre. Accessible through a bus, though a little bit of a distance away. According to legend, this is the spot where Izanagi, upon fleeing the underworld after trying to save his late sister, washed himself to cleanse himself of the dead; in doing so, he gave birth to the goddess of the sun as well as the god of the moon and the god of seas and storms. Definitely worth a visit if you’re interested in Japanese mythology: it’s also a quiet and peaceful spot for a short walk and contemplation.
