This temple is freezing cold inside (writing this in a warm November). You need to pay an entrance fee, but not sure if you need just by entering from the lake side... definitely too much. The view from the temple is fantastic, though. But absolutely not worth coming all the day to here just for it.

Very nice temple by Lake Chuzenji. To get to the top the priests in the temple will guide you and explain some stuff which I found helpful. The view at the top is nice getting a good view of Mount Nantai.

I love this temple. So serene with a very nice lake view. We were probably the first (and only) two guests there and that help..! We visit the temple at 9.09.. after we were done touring around, we still be the only 2 tourists in the temple. After we were done walking around the lake, visiting English and Italian summer vacation homes.., there are more tourists there. You might want to try to give this place your first stop of the day.

Amazing temple! This is one of the oldest temples in Nikko and contains a thousand plus year old wooden kannon statue that is 6 meters tall. They also have an amazing dragon painting on the ceiling. Gochuin is available here.

This temple is a hidden gem in Nikko! Located right in front of Lake Chuzenji and when you come at the right time you will be able to see the lake and Mt. Nantai beautifully from the top floor. Unlike other temples in Japan, after paying the entrance fee (JPY 500), you are able to go explore inside 2 halls, main hall and 5 wisdom king hall. Sometimes they will hold a Prayer Beads Bracelets workshop and you will be able to make your own bracelets and the monk will give his prayer directly! (JPY 2000~) Ps. If you have Goshuuin book (Temple Stamps book) do not forget, as they have 3 different ones available on the temple right before the main hall!
